MAUMEE, OH — Waterville Community Church has officially left Waterville and begun holding services in the former Maxx Fitness at the Shops at Fallen Timbers in Maumee, where members say they’re “pumped up about the move” and ready for a little Maxx Jesus.

Pastor Mike O’Shea preached Sunday beneath the old gym signage, reportedly flexing through portions of the sermon with bulging veins visible beneath his sleeves.

“We’re here to prove that Jesus gives us the strength to press on, no matter the weight of our burdens,” O’Shea said.

The congregation, already accustomed to lifting one another up in prayer, is now doing so amid the remnants of treadmills and dumbbells, giving new meaning to the phrase spiritual gains.

One longtime member arrived wearing the latest Lululemon gear in an outfit that reportedly made the usher blush.

The temporary relocation does raise one theological question: Why is Waterville Community Church meeting in Maumee?

Church members insist it is simply missionary work, noting that the citizens of Maumee “need church way more than the people of Waterville.”

Until renovations are complete, members plan to keep pressing forward, lifting one another up, and pursuing spiritual gains.

No pain. No gain. No Waterville for the Waterville Community Church? Apparently no problem.
